Ahmadiyah’s Controversy in Indonesia — Vying for an Authority
By Ulil Abshar-Abdalla
The whole furor and controversy over Ahmadiyah sect is just a parcel of a larger dynamic in the Indonesian politics. Over the last ten years after the unleashing of democratic movement in Indonesia, one development stands out to be worthy of our analysis, namely the radicalizing trend among Muslim society. This trends manifested in various form, including the vigorous campaign launched by Islamists to adopt and implement sharia or Islamic law. The entire campaign to dissolve Ahmadiyah, to me, cannot be analyzed separately from this larger trend.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION AHMADIYA ARE GROOMED PRIMARILY IN INDIA AND NOW BEING FACILITATED BY EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
FINALITY OF PROPHETHOOD IS AN OBLIGATION IN ISLAM.
ISLAM’S WHOLE BUILDING IS CONSTRUCTED ON FINALITY OF THE PROPHETHOOD OF MUHAMMAD(PEACE BE UPON HIM).
IF ANY PERSON IN SPEECH OR IN DEED NEGATE THIS PRINCIPLE, HE CAN NOT BE THE CITIZEN OF ISLAM, AS ISLAM IS A “STATE”, FOUNDED ON ITS OWN PRINCIPLES FORMULATED BY ALMIGHTY ALLAH.
IN PAKISTAN AHMADIYAS ARE CONSIDERED NON-MUSLIMS CONSTITUTIONALLY.SO THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THEM IN PAKISTAN.PROBLEM FOR THEM ARISES IN THE COUNTRIES LIKE INDONESIA WHERE THEY TRY TO MINGLE THEMSELVES WITH TRUE MUSLIMS AND TRY TO DECEIVE THE SOCIETY.

hi good site thanks
In Indonesia, the MUI organization of clerics has called for the Ahmadiyah
to be banned, and several Islamic organizations have viciously attacked and
closed down Ahmadiyah mosques. The Indonesian chapter of the HT, in
contrast, enjoys tacit support from some ministers and overt support from
hard organizations.
One might be tempted to ask, if Ahmadiyah preaches love for all and hatred
for no one, and HT preaches hatred for democracy and calls for the overthrow
of existing States, why is it that in Indonesia, the establishment is more
worried about Ahmadiyah than it is concerned about the anti-democracy
ideology of the HT? Why are there cabinet ministers who overtly and tacitly
support the anti-democracy, theocratic, ideology that aims to overthrow the
State to replace it with their version of a Caliphate? Does that not sound
like hypocrisy?
NIce article. Really nice! But i think that you could give some more info on a couple of points. However, keep on developing your nice site
It’s a good article by Mr.Ulil, though I feel the presentation of the article is rather some sort of “long form report” instead of being concise article.
I only have two straight comments therefrom:
First, Indonesian Constitution writes, states, and guarantees the freedom of faith and religion.
Please open and read UUD 1945 (Bab XI pasal 29). And please make a good and straight interpretation about that particular chapter stated in our constitution.
Being straight means you have to make a NON ABSURD interpretation.
The second, regarding Hitzbut Tahrir and other hard-liners organizations, all I can say is, these organizations have taken the benefits of democratization of our country, but at the same time, Hitzbut Tahrir together with other hard-liners are definitely anti-democracy organizations, by nature.
So by reading carefully the Indonesian Constitution, I hereby leaves it up to the readers of Mr.Ulil’s articles as to how a good treatment over Ahmadiyah should be taken, since I’m sure that the said readers should have been intelectual enough to be able to make a good and straight interpretation.
