Islam without Ulama’s Fatwa

Yet, if Indonesia is consistent in emulating Saudi’s standpoint, there will be more prohibitions. The Shias may be exterminated since “according to official Saudi teachings, Shias are a Jewish conspiracy (p. 151). Furthermore, radical mass organizations would not be allowed to exist in Indonesia if Indonesia constantly copies Saudi and other Arab countries. Look at this paradox: in fact, Hizbut Tahrir that is anti-democracy and anti-nation state, can only exist and develop in democratic European countries and –don’t forget- in Indonesia!

Very impressive, i salute Manji for her outspokenness and bravery to challenge the norms of muslims. I am a muslim man myself and i truly support liberal Islam. I supported her idea that Islam is us and to focus on humanitarian and not to go against the “natural” laws of God the Almighty is the right way.
The only problem that i fear is that the liberal Islam organisation is not a definite group nor a strong one. Thus this had create a chain of weakness of understanding about Islam and for liberal muslim to fall to the words of the conservative is unacceptable!
We can all agree and see if the whole liberal muslims stand and unite and create new laws and ways to apply Islam the world would be a better place and I would vouch that Islam will become the most respected religion in the world. One day i believe the world will become majority muslims and if we do not take a stand to change the conservative ideas now we will regret it for the longest time!!!
