Soft Power for the Islamic Movement

By Sumanto Al Qurtuby

If Islam were superior, why isn’t there any Muslim country which is progressive and leading in terms of education, technology, culture or economy? Many of Muslim countries were even black-listed because of their poor appreciation upon women and human fundamental rights, the fragility of government bureaucracy and corruption. In the academic level, none of the Islamic universities were listed as the international highest standard. Definitely, these complex social matters cannot be solved by yelling “Allahu akbar” and scapegoating the west.

Assalamu’laikum
The problem in Moslem’s world past, today and maybe in the future does not come from Islam it’s self.Islam has been giving human being the complete guidance of life in all aspects of living. Unfortunately this guidance tend to be hidden by men/women who think that they have authority to make the interpretation of Islam. The result is an unclear explanation about this religion at all.To solve this problem we must make people can understand about it from it’s source, Al Qur’an & Sunnah Rasulullah, straightly.smile

The relationship between Islam and democracy in the contemporary world is complex. The Muslim world is not ideologically monolithic. It presents a broad spectrum of perspectives ranging from the extremes of those who deny a connection between Islam and democracy to those who argue that Islam requires a democratic system. In between the extremes, in a number of countries where Muslims are a majority, many Muslims believe that Islam is a support for democracy even though their particular political system is not explicitly defined as Islamic.

I am not a muslim and somehow found myself here. I know next to nothing about Islam which is why every time someone says to me that Islam is all about racism and violence I can’t give any answer. So can you teach me?

The reason I’m asking is because many non Muslims say Islam is evil and quote verses from the Quran that command to fight and kill and that are antisemitic. This for me has always seemed like shallow analysis of the religion.
From what little I know of Judaism, I know there are 4 stages of knowing the religion and understanding the Tanach: Pshat - face value; Drash - interpretation of what is said; Remez - understanding hints and clues (reading “between the lines"); and Sod - secret (ie Kabala and Zohar). To master all of these and fully understand the religion you need to study for years upon years, and some of the things can only be learned by certain people at certain ages. Most only know the religion at face value and in interpretations.
I assume the Quran is similar in that there are several levels in which to take the words. The problem is I’ve never read the Quran and I don’t even know the basics.
So in general, (I know these are tough questions that would probably take years explaining but I would like a shallow explanation as possible or a reference or even just a small example), I would like to ask:
What exactly is the main message? Why was it created and how exactly? And why are there so many “bad” messages in the Quran\Hadith and what are their context (ex: Hadith Volume 4, Book 52, Number 177)? And what exactly is the Hadith anyways?

There’s one very simple difference between the people who are branded “Islamist terrorists” and other countries’ aggressions: their stated motivation.  When Israel is ransacking Palestine, they do not say it is God’s will or their faith demands it.  When the USA invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, they do not claim it is Jesus’ Will.  They do not put their religion as the driving force and justification behind their actions.  The terrorists do.  And they are very, very loud.  This is the main reason why Islam is labelled as a violent religion: the loudest and most outspoken of its members are violent, while the peace-loving ones keep quiet.

If Islam were to be declared a religion of peace by the global community, it’s supporters must speak up, especially against those who are tarnishing its image and doing violent things in its name.

Why does anyone feel so threatened by ‘western culture’? I don’t particularly like American TV so I don’t let my children watch many programs.
You can choose not to have a tv, go to a bar, wear immodest clothing.

Many devout parents of many faiths have bought up their children to make good choices without have to resort to violence to rid the ‘threat’.

Surely if one is bought up with the Quran they have the spiritual armour to resist such silly persuits?

Life is short. Why get so caught up in all this trickery of Satan?

we don’t know who’s the right or wrong.
but in Qur’an said that it is as a direction so use it as fas as you want to know,
if you do not believe in Qur’an, you can ask your self, or you can see the universe.....
I know that your God never want the human get to the wrong way but right path.
try it

From what I know, religion is all those acts, feelings, and beliefs, which are concerned with doing someone’s duty to God.
Thus, religion is a place where human beings live in the shelter of God’s Divine Love to take protection from evil things and to prevent from wrong doings. A place where we find the coolness of God’s Love.
Therefore, the teachings to spread the religion widely to the people in the world, must be done with love, which is inspired by God’s Divine Love.
I prefer using the word of “the power of love” instead of “soft power”.
I understand, though, that the word “soft power” is applied in opposite to “hard power”. According to me the power of love is the most suitable word as far as religion concerned.
I just hope that the hard-liners of Islamic Movement will surely come to an end. I believe you can not expand the religion by adopting hard power ways. It’s nothing beneficial for the religion. Useless.
So I would suggest that we must stop provoking people during delivering speech of the teachings of religion. Provoking people means spreading hatred to other people with different faiths.
By provoking people you can not gain sympathy but strong feeling of dislike only.

If it is a fact, so what is our contribution? Surely, we don’t need to talk to much about it. Our contribution is the only thing that Islam needs. Hopefully, there are still many moslems who love Islam in good and wise ways. Amin,…
